Let us help you plan your dream vacation to Alaska, including Glacier Bay.
We have traveled to Alaska on multiple itineraries and want to share our knowledge of this unique destination with you so that you can make the most of your trip. The photos below were taken on a typical 7-day cruise from Anchorage (Whittier) to Vancouver, BC. We spent a few days in Anchorage and touring Denali by aircraft before driving down to Whittier to board our Princess cruise. The season is short, but the summer days are long and enchanting, with sunlit views well into the evening. Once boarding the ship, in addition to the numerous chances to visit and view snow capped mountains and glaciers along the way, there is a wide range of excursions available to choose from including: dog sledding, taking in panoramic views from the Mount Roberts tramway in Juneau, flight-seeing, fishing, kayaking, hiking, walking tours, taking the historic White Pass & Yukon railway in Skagway, and meeting real Alaskans at a lumberjack show in Ketchikan. We opted for a helicopter ride in order to land on a glacier and drink glacier water directly from the stream. Priceless! The inner passage is very smooth and very beautiful, a great place to relax and enjoy the magnificent scenery and catch glimpses of wildlife like Bald Eagles and Orcas. And, the half day in Glacier Bay was worth the price of the ticket, watching and listening to the glaciers calve with a large crack as they plunge into the water with a giant splash. You will never want to leave this majestic and wondrous place. It truly is a trip of a lifetime.
Once you arrive in Vancouver and disembark the ship, the market is a great place to shop for flowers, taste the delicious, organic local produce, share an ice cream, and watch the sailboats go by. Public parks offer a chance to catch a local cricket game, and the Japanese gardens are worth a stop. A short bus or rental car ride away is the tramway that swiftly delivers visitors to the top of Grouse Mountain for a panoramic view of Vancouver and possibly a bit of snow on the ground, a great place to drink hot chocolate or specialty coffee.
From Vancouver, it is a simple day trip by rental car or tour bus to Victoria Island, Canada. In Victoria, the highlights include taking afternoon tea a the regal Fairmont Empress Hotel, shopping the charming streets, taking a horse drawn carriage ride through the neighborhood, strolling the Inner Harbor area, and visiting the lovely and enchanting Butchart Gardens. We hope that you will enjoy this virtual tour. Please call us for more information and to book your dream cruise to Alaska to visit these amazing sites.
